40Chief。タホラン２日前の先週の作業。
少し前からカムカバー周りからの音が気になっていたので急遽分解、点検。
Works on 40Chief two days before Tahoe ride. I was worried about the noise from around the cam cover, so I disassembled and looked it.
カムカバーを開けると一緒にカムリフターシャフトも抜けてしまいました。
When I opened the cam cover, the cam lifter shaft also fell out.
カムカバー側のブッシングの受け周りにクラック発見。この年式はここが弱いですね。
I found a crack around the bushing on the cam cover side. This is weak point in this year.
溶接して補強します。
Weld and reinforce.
ブッシングを新しくオーバーサイズで製作
Make a new oversized bushing
内径仕上げは新しいリフターシャフトに合わせてホーニング
Inner diameter finish is honed to match new lifter shaft
新しいブッシングを圧入。カムギアに合わせて溶接を削り合わせます。
Press in the new bushing. Grind the weld to match the cam gear.
今回はついでにデスバレーカムとボンネビルのリフターに変更。
This time, I changed to Death Valley cam and Bonneville lifter.
新しいカムシャフトに合わせてブッシングを抜いて
Remove the bushing to fit the new camshaft
内径合わせホーニング。
Matching inner diameter and honing.
ケースを温めてカムリフターシャフトも新しく打ち替え
Warm the case and replace the cam lifter shaft with new one.
カムカバーのブッシングも新しいシャフトに合わせてホーニング。
The cam cover bushings are also honed to match the new shaft.
スムーズに回る様に微調整します。
Adjust so that it rotates smoothly.

新しいカムとリフターを組み込み

リフターの長さもかなり変わります
The length of the lifter also varies considerably.
カムシャフトエンドプレイ調整
Adjust the camshaft end play

テスト走行。無事異音も消えて高回転までの加速が凄く楽しくなりました🙂👍
さらに点火タイミングやキャブセットを変えて様子を見てみます。
